The Higonokami is a traditional Japanese folding knife renowned for its simplicity, sharpness, and enduring craftsmanship. Originating in the late 19th century in Miki, Japan, it was designed as a practical everyday tool for craftsmen and common folk alike.
The knife features a carbon steel blade that delivers exceptional sharpness and is easy to resharpen. Its friction folder design—without a locking mechanism—allows the blade to pivot smoothly around a single pin. A small lever, called the chikiri, provides control when opening the blade.
The handle, typically crafted from folded brass, steel, or iron, embodies a minimalist and durable design. Over time, the carbon steel develops a natural patina, adding both protection and character.
Compact, functional, and elegant, the Higonokami remains a symbol of Japanese craftsmanship, blending tradition with timeless practicality.
