Compare with the typical friction-fit plastic guard, this offers many advantages. Based on a flip-open action, it is much easier to put your knife in and out and it is safer as less force is applied in this action. There is also no rubbing between the inside of the guard and the surface of the knife, which is good news for the owners who got knives with prestige finish, and would like to keep them. Because this guard uses magnetic force to hold onto the knife, you can also stop worrying about it getting loose over time.
